Good evening, friends. I'm writing seat 22 on the 2 Sunset Limited, where I've been for roughly the last 52 hours. I don't expect to be out of this seat for another hour or so. Our train is at a standstill 15 miles outside New Orleans, waiting at the whims of freight rail companies who have priority on these tracks.
(I am grumpy and would like some real food.)
The trip was very uneventful. I really don't have much to report, except that packing fruits and vegetables was smart and that I slept as one does on a train (poorly). The views were nice through Arizona and quickly turned plain and desert-y when we got to Texas. Generally fine.
Tomorrow, I'll spend the day in New Orleans, and will hopefully have some cooler stuff to share there. Then I'll be heading to Charlottesville the morning after and working my way back up to New York.
If you don’t hear from me tomorrow, assume it’s because Union Pacific decided we’ll be living on this train forever and I am preoccupied fighting over rations a la Snowpiercer.

Oh my dear! Did you ever get to NOLA? You have every right to be grumpy. Get some rest and some good food (yum! Love the food in New Orleans - have some beignets for me). You should be good as new for your next posting 😜.
