Good evening, friends. I’ve just settled into my hotel in downtown Los Angeles after spending the whole day on the Coast Starlight, which normally runs from Seattle to LA. (Because of the recent wildfires, it’s only running from Sacramento to LA, now.)
The ride was lovely and uneventful. (So excuse the very brief update! Not much to share today.) Most of the morning and early afternoon was California farmland, and the afternoon/early evening was along the Pacific.
We got into LA around 9 p.m. Compared to San Francisco, the weather is a godsend—80 degrees and low humidity, exactly the weather I had packed for. I checked into my hotel, got a quick drink at a pirate-themed dive bar nearby, and came back to sleep. Tomorrow, I’ll be spending some time in Long Beach, then another night in LA before heading off to New Orleans.

PS: I wouldn’t be upholding my duty to provide y’all with top-tier content if I forgot to mention the station I left from this morning, Emeryville (across the Bay from San Francisco), had tons of seating.
The thing I remember most about L.A. is that the sidewalks were completely empty - not a soul walking anywhere. As a native New Yorker, this was so different from what I was used to. Of course, these are strange times, so it may be hard to judge if that has changed at all. Enjoy Long Beach, and have fun.💗
