Dear friends: I’m writing tonight from my hotel in Long Beach, California. I decided to break up my few days in Los Angeles by taking a day in the middle in a beach-y place. That ended up being Long Beach, which is both beach-y and metro-accessible from downtown LA.
This morning, I wandered aimlessly around downtown Los Angeles for a few hours, admiring some of the buildings and enjoying the parks, then stopped at Grand Central Market for lunch. I got two of the largest tacos I’ve ever seen and a donut filled with PB&J, both wonderful.
Then I hopped on the A train heading to Long Beach. I stopped at Ross for a discount beach towel then plopped down at Alamitos Beach until I could check into my hotel near the beach. The beaches are, in fact, quite long—it took a solid five minutes of walking to get from the entrance to the water.
After checking into my new hotel, I used the absolutely tremendous Long Beach BikeShare to meet up with my good friend (and early jakebgold.substack.com subscriber) Hannah for dinner burritos at Seal Beach. (Tacos then burritos. I know. When in Rome, etc.)
That’s all for tonight. Tomorrow, I’m planning to enjoy a morning on the beach before returning to downtown LA. Haven’t quite come up with a plan yet after that.

No plan days are always my favorite! So many possibilities- or a chance to reflect or regroup. You’ll be happy you had this day once you’re back in New York. (BTW, we have beaches here too, and I’d even lend you a towel😉)
